Stating the Obvious
Estelle Chatté, whose pregnancy-themed sculptures were unveiled to the public chez Grace on Saturday night, in the show called "IN.OUT" that she shares with her friend Claire Glise, is a fragile-looking, delicate wisp of a woman, but whose sculptures are anything but wussy. The bold frankness of her pregnant bellies (in bright colors!) stirred up lots of comment and reaction that night, but it is stating the obvious to say that here is an artist who is not afraid of looking truth in the eye and taking a gloves-off approach to giving birth to it in papier-maché.
