Michael Johnston has taken his Japanese brush and drawn Paris as long as he's lived here, which is seven years. He and his wife Jean have lived and taught English and video production all over the Middle East and he was on the faculty at the women's college in Dubai. Now that he has more time for his art he is filling up sketchbooks and working larger too.
His show called "Dans la Rue" attracted an international crowd here in early December. He emailed me this morning from New Hampshire where he and Jean are sorting through boxes of their things and getting back to living in the USA. He enclosed a photo of a restaurant in Dubai he did twenty years ago.
I always appreciate hearing several languages spoken in my salon, and that night (besides French and English), Finnish, Portuguese, Arabic and several African languages!
Mike is not just a city boy. He loves the Norman countryside and has drawn leafy vistas and the shoreline too.
His drawings were also showing at the little restaurant in the 14th arrondissement called "Aux Cercles Bleues" and despite talk of economic gloom and doom everywhere, he found buyers for several of his little gems!
Mike's website is www.spectaclelearningmedia.com
